The Role of Mentorship
Throughout every stage of my life, I have been fortunate to have a mentor who guides and inspires me. Whether in basketball, academics, or personal growth, I consistently look up to remarkable women who provide both support and encouragement.
In basketball, I am privileged to be coached by two exceptional women. Their leadership is characterized by a powerful blend of empowerment, recognition, and mutual respect. Despite our age difference, my coaches treat me as an equal, acknowledging my skills on the court while understanding my external commitments. They instill confidence in my abilities and celebrate my achievements, fostering an environment where I feel valued and motivated. Their extensive experience in the sport inspires me to pursue coaching and fuels my passion for basketball.
Another influential figure on the court is our game-day speaker, Ms. Nochman. As a member of the first women’s basketball team at her high school and the University of Michigan, she played a pivotal role in the advancement of Title IX. Ms. Nochman’s contributions to the sport have created opportunities for countless girls, ensuring that we all have a fair chance to excel in athletics. Her legacy not only empowers us on the court but also serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and advocacy for gender equality in sports.
In my academic journey, I am fortunate to be surrounded by individuals who have persevered to achieve their goals. One such inspiration is my APCSA teacher, Ms. Wilson, who has built a successful career in STEM. With challenges still existing for women in this field today, I can only imagine the obstacles she faced while pursuing her education and career.
Women are powerful forces who have fought tirelessly for their rights and opportunities. As we continue to advocate for ourselves, having role models to look up to is crucial. With clear goals in mind, women can accomplish anything.
